Ultrasonography is widely used in pregnancy in the U.S. According to 1992 U.S. natality data, 58% of mothers who had live births received ultrasonography in pregnancy, compared to 48% in 1989.1 The highest rates occurred in white women and those ages 25_39 years. For asymptomatic low-risk women, a single scan in the second trimester may be used to estimate gestational age in women with unreliable dates of last menses and to detect multiple gestation and fetal malformations. A third-trimester scan may be used to screen for intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and fetal malpresentation as well as previously undetected multiple gestations and malformations.2

Accuracy of the Screening Test
Real-time ultrasound consists of high-frequency sound waves that allow two-dimensional imaging of both structural and functional characteristics of the fetus, as well as the location and morphology of the placenta.2 (This chapter will not address the topic of umbilical Doppler ultrasound13). Ultrasound is the recommended test for determination of gestational age in women with uncertain menstrual dates because measurement of the biparietal diameter, when performed early in the second trimester, has been shown to be accurate in determining gestational age.5,6 Ninety percent of patients deliver within 2 weeks of the due date when gestational age is determined by early second-trimester ultrasound.5

INTRODUCTION
3DUS is a recent technique in clinical practice, which has been mostly used in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Although there is relatively little experience in other areas, it is increasing day by day.

Unfortunately, most people still tend to believe that 3DUS is only about getting nice and amazing pictures of baby faces, legs or genitalia. It is precisely this belief and lack of information what has driven us to present to you a set of some different and updated applications that have proved to be useful as well as a range of other feasible and promising uses of this outstanding technology, not only in the already known applications in Obstetrics and Gynecology, but also in the rest of the medical specialties.

Sosyal Sigortalar Kurumu Bölge Hastanesi içerisinde bulunan fizik tedavi, nöroloji,beyin cerrahi,ortopedi,röntgen ünitelerine ek bina yapıldı. SSK Bölge Hastanesi Başhekimi Abdurrahman Arıcı, hastanenin her gün 4 bin hastayı kabul etmesi nedeniyle koridorlarda izdiham olduğunu, ancak ek binaya taşınan dört ünite ile bu sorunu çözdüklerini söyledi. Abdurrahman Arıcı, hastane dışında kalan diyaliz bölümünün de başlattıkları restore çalışmaları ile ana binaya taşınacağını kaydetti. Sekiz diyaliz makinası ile 54 hastaya bakabildiklerini belirten Arıcı, hastalara diyaliz bölümünün ana binaya taşınması ile makina sayısının 18 çıkartılacağını ve daha fazla hastaya bakabilecekleri mücdesini verdi. Bu müjdeyi büyük sevinç ile karşılayan hastalar, makina sayısının 8'den 18'e çıkırılmısını çok olumlu karşıladıklarını söyledi.

Obstetric Ultrasound is the use of ultrasound scans in pregnancy. Since its introduction in the late 1950’s ultrasonography has become a very useful diagnostic tool in Obstetrics.

Currently used equipments are known as real-time scanners, with which a continous picture of the moving fetus can be depicted on a monitor screen. Very high frequency sound waves of between 3.5 to 7.0 megahertz (i.e. 3.5 to 7 million cycles per second) are generally used for this purpose.

They are emitted from a transducer which is placed in contact with the maternal abdomen, and is moved to "look at" (likened to a light shined from a torch) any particular content of the uterus. Repetitive arrays of ultrasound beams scan the fetus in thin slices and are reflected back onto the same transducer.
